An 18-year-old woman remained in serious condition Thursday afternoon at shock trauma, where she was taken after being injured in a crash a day earlier involving a tractor trailer on I-95 year the Winters Run bridge in Joppa.
Traffic on the interstate was backed up several hours after the accident and made for a slow evening rush hour commute.
A rescue call came in at approximately 12:22 p.m. on northbound I-95 before the Route 24 exit, according to a Maryland State Police duty officer. The accident involved three vehicles - a car, sport utility vehicle and tractor trailer.
Initial reports were that a vehicle was under a tractor trailer, according to Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association spokesperson Rich Gardiner. The woman was the only patient, he added, and it took emergency personnel 40 minutes to extricate her from the vehicle.
The unidentified woman was flown to the Maryland Shock Trauma in Baltimore by Maryland State Police Medevac in serious condition, Gardiner added. She remained there Thursday afternoon.
