Man flown to shock trauma after being struck by car on Route 543

A Harford County man was flown to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore after he told police he was struck by the mirror of a car on Route 543 near Route 22 east of Bel Air Thursday afternoon.

The 21-year-old man was taken to a "local trauma facility" at about 2 p.m. with non-life-threatening injuries, Harford County fire and EMS spokesman Rich Gardiner said Friday.

The man walked home before calling police, a Maryland State Police duty officer said.

No more information was available about the vehicle that allegedly struck him was available.

"Paramedics responded to this persons residence after he called 911," Gardiner wrote on the Fire and EMS Association's Facebook page. "Based on their assessment of him they determined, with physician consultation and protocols, that he should be sent to a trauma facility."
