My Time: AAMC social worker wins leadership award

Ashley Varner, an oncology social worker and manager of psychosocial oncology at Anne Arundel Medical Center, received the 2014 Leadership in Oncology Social Work Award from the Association of Oncology Social Work on May 28. The award is given for commitment and leadership skills that serve as a model for the profession of oncology social work.

With more than 15 years in the field of oncology social work, Varner brings considerable experience and expertise in addressing the needs of cancer survivors and co-survivors. She is sought nationally to educate both lay and professional communities. Currently she is the recipient of an American Cancer Society Doctoral Grant, studying the role of evidence-based programs in helping family members who have a loved one with cancer.
