These "winter" days, without snow or much sun, can be long for families. They do, however, make for a perfect time to enjoy some indoor entertainment, and even the occasional outdoor foray. There is plenty of both this weekend and the coming week.

The Children's Theatre of Annapolis',1661 Bay Head Road, production of Treasure Island opens Friday and continues through February 5. A stunning yarn of piracy on the High Seas, this will be a show the whole family will enjoy. Admission is $15, with discounts for youth, senior, military and groups. Sleeping Beauty: An Opera for Children is an exciting new adaptation of the classic fairy tale, set to the music of Mozart. It's the perfect way to share the experience of opera with the children in your life. It takes place 11 a.m. Saturday, at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts. Tickets are $10 to $15. It is presented by the Annapolis Opera in partnership with Towson University's Opera in a Can.
Also on Saturday is the MSP Polar Bear Plunge at Sandy Point State Park. While most think of this as an adult affair, it is actually a family fun affair. They even have a separate section of the beach roped off just for families.
Pee-Wee Plungers will take a quick dip in the bay beginning at 11a.m.
If the bay is a little too frigid for you, dip your toes in the baby pools along the shore. And there is plenty to do inside the Ice Lodge as well. It is a huge heated tent that includes vendor booths, live entertainment, zoo animals, food court, carnival amusements, sandcastle building, a "kids' zone" and more.
Pee-Wee and Family Plunge is a family event for ages 13 and under and their parents. Fundraise or pay the minimum $50 and you will be freezin' for a reason. The plunge event runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A Chinese Spring Festival featuring traditional music, acrobatics, and the Peking Opera to celebrate the Chinese New Year will be held 6 p.m. Tuesday at Maryland Hall, 801 Chase St. Timed to celebrate the beginning of the Chinese Year of the Rooster, the festival will feature crafts demonstrations and performers from China. The festival is free and suitable for all ages. Craft demonstrations will begin at 6 p.m. Chinese craftsmen will demonstrate sugar sculpting, paper cutting, embroidery, bottle paining, doll making, and others.
Performances will begin at 7 p.m.
The musical portion will feature classic Chinese songs mixed with western style music played by the Beijing Traditional Music Orchestra and the Peking Opera by the Beijing Opera Art's College. Also performing will be the Beijing Acrobats, a professional acrobatic troupe with distinctive artistic styles and innovation.
The Spring Festival is presented by World Artists Experiences, a non-profit organization that bridges international understanding through cultural and citizen diplomacy, in partnership with the Embassy of the People's Republic of China.
