Brothers Osborne lose award, gain audience

Heading into the Houston Astrodome for the 2015 Academy of County Music Awards, John Osborne, the older half of The Brothers Osborne, suspected he and his brother TJ wouldn't win ACM Vocal Duo of the Year.

The pair, both graduates of Southern High School and former Deale residents, were up against Brooks & Keller, a pair that makes a habit of ACM Vocal Duo of the year. And they won again.

"Sure, I had some small hope there'd be a freak upset," said John Osborne. "But to be nominated at this point in our careers is a huge, huge, huge achievement."

His mother, Tricia Osborne, agreed.

"Millions of people saw them on TV and heard their music who hadn't heard them before," she said.

During the ACM Award show, John was in the audience with his brother TJ and with his mother, surrounded by music industry stars, celebrities and executives.

John was thrilled to find himself seated next to award-winning singer-songwriter Alan Jackson.

"He's one of the reasons I moved to Nashville," John said.

The Brothers Osborne are packing for a tour with Darius Rucker, and will be performing at the Merriweather Post Pavilion Aug. 22. Another performance is July 2 at the Chesapeake Beach Resort & Spa.
