2002 War Emblem

He burst on the scene with a wire-to-wire win in the Illinois Derby and then left the gate and never looked back at Churchill Downs four weeks later. As War Emblem's fame soared, so did the interest in his sire, Our Emblem, who was standing at stud at Allen and Audry Murray's Mur-Mur Farm in Darlington. Days after War Emblem won the Preakness, Our Emblem's soaring value prompted his sale to major Kentucky breeders, and the Murrays used the proceeds to continue building what is one of Maryland's top breeding and racing operations.
