Orange City University teammates Garrett Rothenberg and Kyle Jones have both signed to play college football at Valparaiso University in Indiana.
Rothenberg, a 6-foot-3, 225-pound tight end, was used mostly as a blocking tight end at University, and he teamed up with Jones, a 6-foot-1, 275 pounds offensive tackle, to provide the strong side for the Titans.
"Signing with a college is the biggest decision an athlete my age is going to have to make, and I want to go to the school that gives me the most opportunities after I get my degree, while still competing at a high level athletically," Rothenberg said. "Kyle joining me will only make the transition from high school to college that much easier for both of us, and not many athletes get that privilege."
Valpo competes in the Pioneer Football League and is an NCAA Football Championship Subdivision school. The Crusaders have won just one game in the past two seasons and will likely be looking for immediate help from this years' signing class.
Rothenberg, doubles as a long-snapper, which will give him an added advantage as he looks for early playing time.
