Tampa Bay Tech defensive end Tony Guerad confirmed late Wednesday night that he has committed to UCF, the 12th commitment for the Knights' 2013 recruiting class.
Guerad, a 6-foot-3, 256-pounder, is the third defensive end in the 2013 class, but the first one with true college defensive end-type physique. The other two commitments listed as defensive ends in high school, Blake Keller (6-2, 215) of Bradenton Manatee and Seyvon Lowry (6-3, 225) of Jacksonville First Coast, have a more suitable build to play linebacker.
Time will tell once these players get on campus and Keller plays much bigger than his listed 215. He looks like he's more toward 230. College training tables and weight programs also have a way of dictating future positions.
Guerad visited UCF three weeks ago for the Knights' home game against FIU and was waiting for the offer to come. It did and on Wednesday he jumped on it.
He had 12 other scholarship offers, including FIU, Kentucky, Cincinnati, Syracuse and Iowa State.
Guerad is teammates with WR Richard Benjamin, who had committed to UCF in July before pulling back his pledge in late August. UCF could still be in the picture for Benjamin, who lists Louisville, Texas A&M and West Virginia among his top four, along with the Knights, according to Rivals.com.
