An Illinois man was arrested in Orange City after he bit a law enforcement official, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office said.
Mark Jerrell Shannon, 19, of South Holland, Illinois was arrested Monday around 12:15 p.m. near the Target at 2575 Enterprise Road.
Deputies were called to the scene after the Target manager, Richard Smith, told the Orange City Police Department that Shannon grabbed his arm and prevented him from leaving the customer service counter.
Officials located Shannon in a nearby parking, but when deputies tried to question him several times Shannon walked away and refused to speak with them.
When deputies caught up to Shannon and attempted to place him in handcuffs, he grabbed Deputy Cameron Tucker's arm and bit it, according to the arrest report.
Tucker hit Shannon on the back with the palm of his hand and the suspect released the deputy's arm, the report said.
Tucker was not injured and Shannon was arrested on felony charges of battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting an officer with violence.
