So you passed on the idea of traveling 800 miles to revel in the Fat Tuesday crowds of the French Quarter in New Orleans? Lucky for you, Central Florida has its own offering of Mardi Gras 2013, held every Saturday night (with added Friday nights, March 15 & 22) at Universal Orlando, through April 20.
An entertaining faux-version of catching beads in the Big Easy, the event's nighttime schedule features a traditional Mardi Gras parade of a dozen brilliantly-colored floats, with cheering crowds reaching out for the thousands of the green-purple-gold plastic necklaces being tossed skyward. Following the parade, a live concert is showcased each night, with famed crowd-pleasers scheduled such as The Steve Miller Band, Demi Lovato, Matchbox Twenty, Phillip Phillips, Kool & The Gang, and Pitbull.
