Seabreeze's Charles Nelson loves USC visit; Oregon up next

Southern Cal is looking to make it 3-for-3 on prospect targets in Daytona Beach and to hear coveted Seabreeze slot receiver Charles Nelson talk about his visit, the Trojans certainly have a good shot at landing him.

USC signed a Daytona star in each of the past two recruiting cycles with Mainland defensive ends Leonard Williams, who was Pac-12 Defensive Freshman of the Year in 2012, and fellow former Buccaneer Quinton Powell.

Williams and Powell, along with former Tampa Berkeley Prep star Nelson Agholor, played host this past weekend during Nelson's trip. "They all showed me a good time," Nelson said.

"It was great. I had a great time. It was my first time out to the West Coast and I had a blast," Nelson said.

It was Nelson's second official recruiting visit. His first was to Notre Dame. He will visit Oregon this upcoming weekend and his final trip is tentatively set for West Virginia on Jan 30-31. Nelson and Florida officially ended the courtship last week, and he replaced the Gators with the Ducks in his top four.

"So we'll see how that is and see how they match up with USC and Notre Dame and go from there," Nelson said.

He said it's too soon to choose a favorite, but USC certainly impressed the 5-foot-9, 170-pound Nelson, who is the No, 1-ranked player in the Sentinel's 2014 Super60. He actually rates USC and Notre Dame even after visits there.

"They were pretty much exactly the same. They both showed me a great time, both schools are great, both coaching staffs are great ... so I really don't have an order for them," Nelson said.

"I'm just taking everything slowly, trying to evaluate everything, but then again you have to think numbers-wise, like you can't wait until the last minute or a spot could be gone. ... so whenever I know and feel comfortable with my decision, then I'll announce."

Nelson will be taking part in the International Bowl during the week of National Signing Day. The game, put on by USA Football, will be played in Arlington, Texas, Feb. 7. Signing day is Feb. 5.
