Gov. Rick Scott had a private meeting yesterday with former Gov. Jeb Bush, state Sen. John Thrasher and Gary Chartrand, chairman of the State Board of Education. The event, on the heels of Scott's education summit, prompted complaints from some parent groups and Democrats that three-day Clearwater gathering was a sham and real decisions were being made at the private dinner in Miami, the Tampa Bay Times reported.
The summit wrapped up Wednesday and was attended by about 40 participants, including Chartrand and Thrasher, a powerful GOP senator from North Florida. Scott did not attend.
The goal of the summit, officials said, was to provide state leaders advice on key issues involving Florida's school accountability system -- state standards, state tests, school grades and teacher evaluations.
