Sanford Seminole ATH Ronnie Moore lands first offer from Cincinnati

Ronnie Moore was quite excited this week when he got his first college football scholarship offer from Cincinnati.

“I think that might be my school … where I might be going,” said Moore, a 5-foot-10, 160-pound athlete who missed much of last season with a torn, what he called, “butt muscle (gluteus maximus).”

He briefly met Cincinnati defensive backs coach Shannon Morrison this week, after having numerous conversations with Morrison via phone, text and e-mail.

“Me and coach Morrison have been talking for a long time and he’s the one who came down,” Moore said.

More, who also has had interest from Memphis as a slot back, is being pinpointed as a cornerback by the Bearcats, something he’s not necessarily known for, but yet a position he said he prefers far more than playing offense.

“They said they liked my highlight film land they said they like me on offense too, but they need some defensive players and they like me on defense, so that’s how they are recruiting me.” Moore said. “I love defense more than offense. It’s just that in high school everybody puts their best players on offense. They saw my hips and they know I can move around and then of course there’s the speed.”

Indeed, there is the speed.

He runs a 4.4-second 40-yards dash when healthy and he said he’s 100 percent. He ran a 10.9-second split in the 4x100-meter relay at this week track regionals and the Seminole team has qualified for state, which is in Jacksonville next week.

“If I didn’t have to play offense in high school that’s what I’d be now, a defensive back  …  probably safety because I’m the biggest DB we got.”

He’s ready to go after missing six games last year. He did manage one interception in his short span of activity.

“I’m 100 percent baby,” he said. “I’m good now … back to myself.

The offer just makes him want to get out there even more.

“I feel real good about it. It kind of excited me,” Moore said. “When he said they wanted to offer, I couldn’t do nothing but smile. I kept smiling, it’s all I could do .. speechless. A D1 offer before spring time … craziness.

“I’m ready. I got a show coming for the spring. I’ve been ready for is this since last season.”
