USF coach Skip Holtz lands first commitment in big Jersey OT Jake Kaufman

Orlando Sentinel

It didn't take long for new USF coach Skip Holtz to land his first commitment to the 2010 recruiting class. And he's a big one.

Jake Kaufman, a 6-foot-9, 330-pound offensive tackle from Brick Township, N.J., decided during his campus visit to Tampa this weekend that he want to be a Bull.

"After the meeting with Coach Holtz, I knew this was the right place for me," Kaufman told the St. Petersburg Times.

He picked the Bulls over some impressive offers, and his other visits were to Florida, Georgia, Miami and home-state Rutgers.

Kaufman drives two hours each day to attend a private school in Jersey City -- St. Peter's Prep.

What drew Kaufman to USF?

"I said to myself, 'I don't want to go to a Big Ten school anymore,' " he said. "I want to go somewhere warm in Florida."
