Thomasville, Ga., 5-star defensive end Ray Drew will announce this morning his college of choice. He has said that choice will come from his finalists of Auburn, Georiga, LSU and Miami.
Auburn has reportedly (bleacherreport.com) dropped out of contention, down to its final four scholarships and not looking defensively.
But that's not what Drew posted on his Facebook page on Thursday: "just to clear the record. auburn did not stop recruiting me. i had 3 in-home visits set up this week, but i on my own cancelled them because i needed time to breat."
So does that mean Auburn is still in it?
Drew posted on his Facebook page on Monday: "There will be a huge surprise on Friday . . . no auburn, no georgia, no lsu . . . time to shock the world baby!”
OK, so that's pretty simple deciphering, right? Not even Jethro would need Ellie Mae's help in figuring this out. But, of course, this is college football recruiting. Nothing is as simple as what it appears.
So Ray Drew, the 6-foot-4, 234-pound monster of a defensive end, a consensus Top 10 All-American across the recruiting sites, will announce his decision at 10 a.m., Friday at Thomas CountyCentral High School.
Hurricane fans just might be in luck. Drew certainly wouldn't have to fight for headlines at Miami, if that's what he's interested in. He'd be THE man on campus. Pair him up with Anthony Chickillo at the other defensive end spot, and you have one heck of a bookended defensive line.
So Miami could be the shocker. Watch out world.
