There has been a lot of news coming out of Fort Collins, Colo., lately. Colorado State has 18 players from Florida on its roster and 11 are from the Orlando area.
The Rams also have two commitments for the 2011 class in Orlando Dr. Phillips OT Darius Johnson and DT Bryan Bosworth of Island Coast Cape Coral.
Three 2010 signees Marvin Ford and Marquis Hood of Dr. Phillips and Jay James of Orlando Colonial have landed on other rosters. Ford is now at Norfolk State after refusing a request to gray-shirt at CSU. James was not admitted and is at a Kansas community college. Hood is thought to be still considering a gray-shirt at CSU but will be at Grand Rapids (Mich.) Community College this year.
Also out of CSU, RS-FR Nico Ranieri lost out this past week in his battle for the starting quarterback spot to true freshman Pete Thomas, a 6-foot-5, 218 pounder out of El Cajon (Calif.) Valhalla.
Ranieri will now battle RS-JR Klay Kubiak of Englewood, Colo., for the backup spot although Kubiak injured his groin in a Saturday scrimmage this past weekend. Ranieri's brother Sam is a 2012 Super60 center at Dr. Phillips.
A pair local products have looked good so far as freshmen. CB Shaq Bell of Osceola has seen time practicing with the second team defense. His half brother Momo Thomas, starts at corner. Ocoee WR Nordly Capi has also looked good and could see plenty of action this year.
LB Charles Favors is another Dr. Philips freshman looking good and although he does not show up on the current depth chart, he very well could be by the time CSU opens with Colorado on Sept. 4.
WR Thearon Collier of Miami Booker T. Washington, a 2010 Hurricanes signee, was booted from the team and will end up at Southern Cal and be eligible in 2011, according to an ESPN report.
DL Luther Maddy, Delray Beach Atlantic, has committed to Marshall for 2011.
