Recruiting Buzz: While Miami Central quarterback Jeffrey Godfrey set Dade County passing records, Gainer thrived as a strong rushing threat for the Rockets. Gainer ran for 1,487 yards and 19 touchdowns on 186 carries. He was named to the Miami Herald's All-Dade Class 6A first team after helping Central (12-2) make its first appearance ever in the Class 6A state semifinal. Gainer also had offers from USF, North Carolina, Oregon, Texas Tech, Florida State and Louisville. He said his Miami Central teammates already committed to the Knights and UCF assistant coach David Kelly helped make him feel comfortable picking the school. Gainer was close to announcing his commitment the weekend before signing day, but the UCF coaching staff asked him to wait so that he would be less of a target for other BCS programs still eager to add a strong running back.
