Quite a variety of special events this week at Orlando's theme parks and attractions:
+ Medieval Times, the Kissimmee dinner show with a 13th century theme, has the premiere of its new show on Tuesday. The story changes, but the jousting and other horseplay remains. More info: www.medievaltimes.com.
+ Soulful John Oates will perform in the Velvet Sessions at Universal's Hard Rock Hotel on Thursday. You know him from the Hall & Oates years. More info: www.velvetsessions.com
+ The laser-light shows return to Orlando Science Center for a limited engagement. They will be their rockin', rollin' glory on Fridays and Saturdays through Aug. 18. New this year is a G-rated edition featuring the music of They Might Be Giants. Also coming to the science center are Sean Casey of "Storm Chasers" fame and the 15,000-pound Tornado Intercept Vehicle. Casey, who directed the IMAX movie "Tornado Alley" (now playing at OSC), will be participating in Q&A sessions after "Alley" shows this Saturday and Sunday. + WhirlyDome, the International Drive home of WhirlyBall, has its grand opening scheduled for Friday and Saturday. The kickoff is 3 p.m. Friday and features the WhirlyDome Olympics with six teams competing in laser tag, bowling, Lazer Frenzy, the F1 Racing Simulator and, of course, WhirlyBall, which is a cross of bumper cars, basketball, jai alai and hockey. + Al Green ("Let's Stay Together," "I Can't Get Next to You") is this Saturday's performer at the Summer Concert Series at Universal Studios. Show time is 8 p.m. More info: www.universalorlando.com.
