Orlando police are asking for the public's help after a man was killed late Friday.
Officers responded to a call in the 1300 block of Givens Street near North Orange Blossom Trail in Northwest Orlando at about 11 p.m. Friday.
The victim was identified as 21-year-old Casimir Monelu. Nearly every detail of the investigation into Monelu's death has been withheld — including manner of death — to "protect the integrity of the investigation," spokesman Sgt. Jim Young said in an email.
A public records search showed that Monelu still had a pending non-violent criminal charge with the Ninth Judicial Circuit in Orlando.
He and eight co-defendants were scheduled to go to trial next month to face charges of staging a motor vehicle crash and fraudulently obtaining more than $20,000 in property.
No other arrests were found on Monelu's record. Police have not said if Monelu is believed to be a victim of a random act of violence or if he was targeted.
No arrests have been made in Monelu's slaying and no suspects have been named.
