By the time I left "That's What You Get," I was pretty sure the title referred to abdominal strain. I spent more time belly-laughing at this well-crafted roundup of comedy sketches than at any other show at Fringe this year.
James Honey directs his cast of local theater veterans through a solid hour of comic vignettes, with a sprinkling of music. "That's What You Get" rarely slows down, weaving a few recurring characters through an otherwise unconnected stream of sketches, ranging from an increasingly hilarious date at a Greek mythology-themed restaurant to quick interludes involving "The Walking Dead" and other pop-culture touchstones.
With performers this polished, you can afford to keep the script loose, and Honey does just that. There's not a weak link in the cast — Kelley Addis reels in the laughs when she dishes about "Jaws" from the shark's point of view, and Chris Prueitt shows impressive range as a matchmaking carnival barker and a lusty version of Zeus.
From the props to the staging, there's nothing too complicated here. But comedy can be complicated enough on its own, and the All New Revue makes it look easy.
