Nik Vucevic, Orlando Magic center/power forward

HT:  7-0  WT:  240  COLLEGE: Southern Cal

AGE: Turns 23 on Oct. 24, 2013.

NBA SEASONS: 2012-13 is his second.

HOW HE CAME TO ORLANDO: Traded by the Philadelphia 76ers in the four-team, 12-player deal that sent Dwight Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers on Aug. 10, 2012.

SCOUTING REPORT: It would be a mistake to label Vucevic as a mere “throw-in” on the Howard deal. Magic officials think he has significant upside. He certainly is a very skilled big man. He has a series of refined low-post moves with both hands, and he has good shooting range. He rebounds well for a youngster, and Magic coaches will push him to improve. Where he needs to improve most is on the defensive end of the court; he’s not a good shot-blocker, at least not yet.

ODDS & ENDS: His first name is Nikola, but he prefers to be called Nik. . . . His parents both played professional basketball in Europe and played for Yugoslavia’s national team. . . . He considers Montenegro home, but he was born in Switzerland and spent 12 years of his childhood in Belgium. . . . He is fluent in three languages: Serbian, French and English.
