Gustavo Ayón might be nearing his return from a left-thumb injury.
The 6-foot-10 Orlando Magic big man sprained the thumb during an exhibition game Oct. 21 against the San Antonio Spurs.
The initial medical report said Ayón would miss at least two weeks, and the two-week anniversary of the injury will arrive this Sunday.
Ayón is wearing a splint over his left thumb and has done little, if any, work with a basketball in recent days. But he’s been able to continue a running regimen.
“I think two weeks was our minimum,” coach Jacque Vaughn said. “The great thing is he’ll still be in good condition. So that’s the good part of it. We’ll see how he feels once the two weeks come around.”
