Seffner Armwood safety Kyle Gibson, one of the top players in Florida for the Class of 2014, has committed to Vanderbilt, he confirmed via text message Thursday night.
Gibson, the No. 30-ranked prospect in the state in the Sentinel's Florida Top 100, picked the Commodores over his other finalists Louisville, Miami, Notre Dame and USF.
UCF had been in the hunt for the 4-star athlete, who had great things to say about the Knights, the UCF campus and the efforts of UCF's Tampa-area recruiter and Knights defensive backs coach Kirk Callahan, but Vandy was his leader most of the way.
The SEC Commodores have been reeling in some big-timers lately. Gibson is their fifth 4-star commit, according to 247Sports.com, and his commitment moves them into the Top 20 of the 247 team rankings at No. 19.
There could be more top-notch prospects on the way to the Nashville, Tenn., school and Tampa Gaither cornerback Amani Oruwariye may be next. He has Vandy among his top schools with Nebraska and Michigan State.
Gibson had four interceptions and 74 tackles for Armwood last season.
