In its production of "Julius Caesar," opening March 21, Orlando Shakespeare Theatre takes a futuristic approach as evidenced by costumes that evoke "Star Trek" as much as ancient Rome.
William Shakespeare's classic drama is directed by Tina Packer, founder and former artistic director of Shakespeare & Company, a Massachusetts-based troupe. The show will be staged with a small cast, including Nigel Gore in the title role.
"Shakespeare's tale of politics, friendship, blood and war will surround, involve and energize the audience in our intimate Goldman Theater," says Shakes artistic director Jim Helsinger. "Audiences will feel like they're right on top of the action."
"Julius Caesar" runs through April 20, with shows at 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays-Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays and Wednesdays. Tickets are $17-$40, with discounts for students and military personnel. The theater is at 812 E. Rollins St., Orlando. For more information, call 407-447-1700 or go to orlandoshakes.org.
