It's hard to believe it's been 10 years since Janet Jackson was so gracious to add a memorable phrase to our collective pop culture lexicon. For your contribution "wardrobe malfunction," we thank you.
The incident during Super Bowl XXXVIII in Houston occurred on Feb. 1, 2004, and it tops any other Super Bowl halftime in terms of importance. At the conclusion of a duet with Justin Timberlake, the former 'N Syncher reached around Ms. Jackson bodice and ripped off part of her top revealing her breast, an incident that would also be dubbed Nipplegate.
It might not have been the most entertaining, but it was certainly the most memorable.
And for the year, the phrase may the most lasting importance:
Other memorable quotes from 2004:
Donald Trump's "You're Fired."
Howard Dean's "Heeyaaaaagh."
Paris Hilton's "That's Hot."
Napoleon Dynamite, "Gosh."
Red Sox president Larry Lucchino, "We don't believe in no stinking curses."
It was also a good year for the Patriots, who won the Super Bowl that day, beating the Carolina Panthers, 32-29.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
