Faith Christian is launching football in 2013 and has hired Andre Dobson as its head coach.
A meet and greet for the new coach will be held at the school (9703 Curry Ford Rd., Orlando) on Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m.
Dobson was head coach from 2008-11 at St. Petersburg Northside Christian, going 14-27, then coached Lakeland Victory Christian to a 4-6 record last season. He also was a high school head coach in California and an assistant at Evangel University of Missouri, where he played college football.
“This will be my first position that I haven’t come into turmoil or had to fix something,” Dobson said. “It’s coming in totally fresh and getting to do it in a way I feel a good quality championship football program should be developeed. I’m very excited.”
Dobson said he heard good things about the opportunity from colleagues and clicked with Faith athletic director and boys basketball coach Tony Medina.
"Lots of great things about Tony and that was a big pull for me," Dobson said. "It was an amazing way the conversation went. Everything just started falling into place.
Faith will be an independent team within the Florida High School Athletic Association in 2013. It is listed as a member of the Sunshine State Athletic Conference, a growing league of independent football programs which also includes Orlando Christian Prep, Master’s Academy, Windermere Prep, Central Florida Christian, Cornerstone Charter Kissimmee City of Life, First Academy-Leesburg, Mount Dora Bible, International Community School and Legacy Charter of Ocoee.
