Today we reveal the winners of the 14th annual Foodie Awards, our readers' favorite places to eat and drink in 2011. We added nine categories, including best food truck, bar menu and coffeehouse. Of course, I noted my picks as well. But the main focus is your take of what's hot in the Central Florida dining scene.
By the number of votes cast, I'd wager it took more than a half-million dirty dishes to get to this point. I hope you tipped well. Several restaurants ran promotions tied to Foodie votes in certain categories. That's not against the rules and we are flattered. But despite what might seem like ballot stuffing to achieve a win, the cream rose to the top.
A few themes emerged in this year's voting.
•Keep on trucking: We love food trucks. Not only did we add this as a category this year, but many of you voted for trucks in ethnic food categories.
•Budget-conscious everyday eats. In Cheap Eats, also a new category, there were more than 130 nominations covering six counties.
•There is no place like home. In categories such as Breakfast it's clear that we like to eat in our neighborhoods. I was glad to see votes cast for such dependable destinations such as All-American Café, Shannon's Casual Café and Daybreak Diner (all in Orlando) and others.
Welcome to the critic's table. You've earned your spot.
