( CHRIS HAYS/ORLANDO SENTINEL / February 6, 2013 )
Keanu Neal, S, Bushnell South Sumter
Ht: 6-1 Wt: 200 Class: 2013
Recruiting Buzz: Neal is another piece of an excellent group of defensive backs signed by the Gators. Ranked No. 1 in the Sentinel¿s 2013 Central Florida Super60, Neal might have been the hardest hitter in the state of Florida. Neal, Marcell Harris and Nick Washington arrive in Gainesville with the Gators needing to replace 2012 starting safeties Matt Elam and Josh Evans. While Neal might not get into the lineup immediately, chances are he will be able to excel on special teams. At present, he resembles a linebacker playing safety. This might not be a bad thing with Will Muschamp and Co., which wants to field the nation¿s most physical defense. But Neal¿s level of success on the back end will hinge on how well he develops his ball skills and feel in the passing game. As a side note, Neal played at the same school that produced Earl Everett, a five-star recruit in 2003, and linebacker for the Gators¿ 2006 national championship team.
