Tickets on sale now for 'Blackfish,' documentary about SeaWorld killer whale

Tickets are now on sale for "Blackfish," the documentary film about Tilikum — the SeaWorld orca responsible for more than one death while in captivity.

The movie will open Aug. 9 at Enzian Theater in Maitland — but based on the interest in the movie, which has SeaWorld on the defensive, you might want to get a ticket early.

In the film, director-producer Gabriela Cowperthwaite uses video footage and emotional interviews to explore the creature's extraordinary nature. From her perspective, it's cruel to keep the species in captivity as part of the sea-park industry.

SeaWorld has issued a point-by-point critique of the film, as my colleague Jason Garcia details in a story running in the Orlando Sentinel this weekend.

Tickets cost $10; $8 for matinee showings before 6 p.m., students, senior citizens and military personnel. Enzian members pay $7.50.

The theater is at 1300 S. Orlando Ave., Maitland. For tickets and to see the showtime schedule, go to
