It was a banner day all across the state for the top football schools as National Signing Days prompted celebratory parties in all outposts from Tallahassee to Coral Gables.
At Florida State, the rich got richer. The Seminoles hauled in the nation's No. 4 recruiting class as rated by 247Sports.com, while Florida's coaching staff delivered on a banner offseason haul despite posting a 4-8 record in 2013. Miami was right there with the Gators, and UCF and USF had to be pleased, as well.
The Buzz: The Seminoles failed to land coveted New Orleans WR Malachi Dupre, but when looking at this class from top to bottom, it's clear the Seminoles won't be losing sleep. Late signing day signatures from WR Ermon Lane, ATH Ja'Von Harrison, OT Derrick Kelly, DT Derrick Nnadi and OT Roderick Johnson pushed this group above all but Alabama, LSU and Ohio State.
The Buzz: If the Gators had not lost out on RB Dalvin Cook, WR Ermon Lane and ATH Chris Lammons, there would be a plus-sign next to the A. Head coach Will Muschamp still has to be giddy after NSD featured autographs from QB Treon Harris, WR C.J. Worton, OT Andrew Mike and previously waffling ATH J.C. Jackson.
The Buzz: The national top-10 ranking and BCS game victory obviously helped UCF with a late flurry of additions to its class. S Kyle Gibson flipping from Vanderbilt and Chris Williams flipping from Alabama were impressive gets for the Knights. UCF continued to unearth talent in Georgia and Oviedo ATH Chris Davis Jr. could be the sleeper of the whole class.
The Buzz: Unlike last year, the Hurricanes held onto their committed prospects. And while there was no flurry at the finish line, Miami took care of business and didn't have to watch recruits sign with other schools or make last-ditch efforts to save the class. Al Golden's resurrection continues on course and the 'Canes even kept strong players at home this year.
The Buzz: The Bulls quietly put together one heck of a class. As previously committed players became available, Willie Taggart was there to pick them off. QB Winky Flowers, WR Ryshene Bronson, ATH Jimmy Bayes, RB D'Ernest Johnson, DE Rohan Blackwood, WR Tyre McCants, RB Marlon Mack and ATH Tajee Fulwood are stars in the making.
The Buzz: Charlie Partridge's hiring certainly sparked plenty of interest down south and the Owls made up valuable ground in the final month, but not enough. The warning sign is out, however, as FAU plans to be a recruiting force in South Florida circles. RB Trey Rodriguez is the headliner of this class, and that signing was a big coup for the Owls.
The Buzz; Sorry Panthers, but we can't think of any other letter that better sums up this class. It's such a no-name group that only 13 pictures of the 23 signees were available for 247Sports.com's FIU team page and many of the prospects didn't have official rankings. Strong-armed Tampa Gaither QB Alex McGough headlines this crew, and FIU was his only FBS offer. The Panthers did land UM flip ATH Dennis Turner of Fort Lauderdale Dillard, but he can't save the class.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
