An Alabama man charged with aggravated child neglect after a little girl drowned Friday in a Kissimmee Resort pool has been granted $2,500 bond.
Elijah Darnell Morton, 28, from Birmingham, Ala. remained in the Osceola County Jail Saturday evening.
He and his girlfriend, Gwendolyn Henderson, took nine children to the Coral Cay Townhomes pool Friday.
One of the children — a 4-year-old girl —slid into the pool and was found at the bottom unresponsive five minutes later, police said.
Henderson, who is related to the child, attempted to give the girl cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Other details about the relationships were not released.
Morton did not assist with CPR and told Henderson "to stop and take the children back to the town home," police spokeswoman Stacie Miller said.
The child was taken to the hospital. She died a short time later.
He told detectives he hadn't seen the child after 7:50 p.m., but witnesses told police Morton was with the child between 7:55 p.m. and 8 p.m., when she was found at the bottom of the pool.
