Chavis Dickey becomes UCF's fifth commitment this week

The latest UCF commitment — the Knights' fifth pledge to the 2014 recruiting class in the past six days — is not much of a talker.

That’s OK, however, because all UCF needs Chavis Dickey to be is a blocker.

Dickey committed to the Knights on Friday. He joined DE Sedrick King of Plant City, OT Wyatt Miller of Douglas (Ga.) Coffee, WR Chris Davis Jr. of Oviedo and WR Tre’quan Smith of Delray Beach Village Academy as part of a barrage of incoming commitments for the Knights since last Saturday.

“My parents liked it, I liked it, and it just really seemed like good school to go to, so I committed,” Dickey, a 6-foot-4, 300-pound offensive tackle, said when reached at his home near Fort Valley (Ga.), where he attends Peach County High School.

Dickey said he picked the Knights over Cincinnati and Middle Tennessee State, which had shown the most interest in him to date.

“It just felt like it was the right time, and my parents felt like it was the right idea,” Dickey said.

Dickey’s main recruiter for UCF has been Tyson Summers, who covers the Georgia area for the Knights. It’s Summers’ second commitment this week. Miller committed on Saturday.

“He’s a pretty good coach. I like him and he recruited me well,” Dickey said of Summers. “He wanted me to call him like every week.

“They like my family and my high school coaches and they think I’m a good player. They feel like I bring a lot to the school.”

Dickey said he prides himself in technique and he is ranked as the No. 96 offensive tackle in the country according to the 247Sports.com composite rankings, which takes into account an average of rankings from several major recruiting services.

“I’d say I’m a very good fundamental player,” he said. “And I’m good at both run blocking and pass blocking.”

Dickey said he will not be an early graduate and he also said he is already qualified through the NCAA Clearinghouse and scored a 17 on his ACT. He’s still planning a return trip to UCF, where he last visited in March for a spring practice.

“I plan on coming down there but I just don’t know when yet,” he said.
