Benedict Cumberbatch announced his engagement to theater director Sophie Hunter, who he's been dating for two years. He made the announcement via the engagements section of The Times of London newspaper.
Cumberbatch has risen to fame with his TV role on the BBC series as well as in the films "Star Trek Into Darkness," "12 Years A Slave" and is rumored to be in negotiations with Marvel to play Dr. Strange in an upcoming adaptation of the comic book character. He's also the voice of Smaug in two of the three films in "The Hobbit" trilogy.

To gauge the reaction of the news, I turn to twitter.
@JoinJax tweets, "All hope is lost where am I NOW to find my 6"2 smart intelligent Englishman... Sigh!"
@Doug_Gross tweets, "As if millions of geek-girl voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced."
@prichardmg tweets, "#cumberbatch is engaged and I couldn't be happier for him. Now if you'll excuse me, this pint of Haagen-Dasz isn't going to eat itself."
But kudos to Mr. Cumberbatch for relying on the dead-tree edition of The Times to make the announcement.
The Times isn't resting on its laurels either about the move.
