1970 Marshall University football team

On November 14, 1970, the entire Thundering Herd football team died in a plane crash. A total of 75 people were on board including the players, coaches and fans. No one survived. Southern Airways Flight 932, was returning to Huntington, W.V. after transporting the team to a game in North Carolina. Just before landing, the plane clipped trees west of the runway and crashed nose first. It was the worst single air tragedy in NCAA sports history.
