Arizona, Marshall latest on board with West Orange WR Garrett Johnson

Winter Garden West Orange wide receiver Garrett Johnson used to wonder if he was ever going to receive a college scholarship offer.

Now he wonders who's next.

The 5-foot-9, 162-pound junior received his fourth and fifth offers on Friday, as Arizona and Marshall joined earlier offering schools Boston College, Northwestern and USF.

Johnson's size has always been the one aspect that was thought to be what might hold off offering schools, but they now appear to be looking beyond that. He certainly has no problem making plays.

The No. 8 player in the Sentinel's 2014 Central Florida Super60 has had impressive numbers at West Orange the past two seasons.

During his sophomore and junior seasons, he racked up almost 2,000 yards receiving. His best year was as a sophomore, when he caught 55 passes for 1,014 yards and 10 touchdowns. Johnson had 49 catches this past season, with 685 yards and seven TDs, a drastic drop-off in yardage. Teams became more aware of his presence and defensive backs started laying back instead of allowing themselves to get beat at the catch.

Johnson has also scored two rushing touchdowns over the past two seasons, gaining almost 200 yards on 21 carries.
