Former Orlando Olympia kicker Aleem Sunanon, now a redshirt freshman at South Alabama, was named the Sun Belt Conference special teams player of the week after he kicked a career-best three field goals during the Jaguars 31-24 overtime victory over Western Kentucky on Saturday.
Sunanon (5-foot-7, 185 pounds) nailed field goals of 42, 43 and 37 yards to help the Jags keep pace with the Hilltoppers. His 37-yarder in the fourth quarter tied the game at 24-24, which was the score at the end of regulation.
He is 5-of-8 on field goals this season and 10-for-10 on extra points, and he leads the Jaguars in scoring with 25 points. His longest field goal was a 46-yarder against Tulane.
