WHERE: 463 W. New England Ave., Winter Park (between Hannibal Square East and South Virginia Avenue); plenty of street parking and a lot across from Dexter's THE LOWDOWN: An eclectic menu with specialty martinis and happy hour specials. Stick with the trout and grouper and you won't be disappointed. Also the Hot Olives apperitzer is a nifty concoction of diced black olives mixed with Asiago cheese, then breaded and deep fried. It came with a side of very mild melted blue cheese that had a yin-yang sweet red chili sauce swirled on top. THE BACKGROUND: Hot Olives replaced what was once the West End Grill. Back then, it took a rustic cue from its laidback predecessor. But over the years, Hot Olives has evolved from uber-casual eatery to fast-casual/gourmet market to today's popular bar and restaurant.
