Dexter's of Winter Park

WHERE: 588 W. New England Ave., Winter Park 32789 THE LOWDOWN: Come for the food, entertainment and the camaraderie of the bar. The filet mignon is nicely done, and the pressed duck sandwich is a classic. The restaurant occupies a corner and several doors are kept open to let the air in (and the music out). The decor is raw and industrial with brightly colored original artworks on the walls. THE BACKGROUND: Dexter's was one of the early tenants of the gentrified area when, in late 1999, it relocated from its first -- and for a long time only -- location on Fairbanks Avenue. When it moved to West End-Hannibal Square, Dexter's did away with its wine retail concept and expanded its food menu. There are other Dexter's locations in Lake Mary and Orlando's Thornton Park.
