Chewing Gum

For years it was thought that chewing gum could help you lose weight. But when that theory was put to the test, not only did it fail, it did the opposite. A recent study by the Department of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences at the University at Buffalo, showed that chewing gum does reduce the number of meals you eat, but those meals will be larger and less nutritious. It also showed that chewing mint-flavored gum motivates you to eat junk food rather than fruits. This is likely because the mint makes fruits and vegetables taste bitter, according to researchers.

Previous studies have shown that the artificial sugar in gum can also induce weight gain.
