Florida Beach Guide: St. Pete Beach

St. Pete Beach is a barrier island in Pinellas county with award-winning, beautiful beaches on the Gulf of Mexico. With miles of pristine white sand, St. Pete Beach offers visitors a variety of views, activities and Florida sun.

St. Pete Beach is nestled on Long Key. Upham Beach, located on the northern tip of St. Pete Beach, is one of the few spots along the Gulf of Mexico known for surfing. Playground and showers are available. Beach access is available through Pinellas County Parks or at one of several beachfront resorts. The St. Pete Beach facility offers plenty of parking, restrooms, showers, a water fountain, and three boardwalks to carry visitors over natural sand dunes and sea oats to a white sandy swim area and a spectacular view of the Gulf of Mexico.

Accommodations range from world-renowned resort to mom-and-pop motels, to quaint bed and breakfasts. There is the architecturally and historically grand Don CeSar Resort, which offers its guests a luxurious view of the gulf amidst the grounds of the historic "Pink Lady." For a more expansive experience, the TradeWinds Islands Resort offers its guests endless beach activities, 14 restaurants, entertainment venues, or just relaxing by one of their seven pools.

For fun on the water, there are several marinas in St. Pete Beach offering boat rentals, parasailing, deep sea fishing, dolphin watches, and more. Beyond the surf visitors can spend the day shopping on historic Corey Avenue, dine at a waterfront restaurant, or spend the day skim boarding.

Other attractions in the area include several world-class museums, including the Salvador Dali Museum--which offers the most comprehensive collection in the world devoted to the Spanish master--and the Florida International Museum--which hosts national and international traveling exhibitions. The Pier, a five-story dining and shopping complex.
