Revisiting the heyday of department stores and five-and-dimes

The Senator cypress tree at Big Tree Park

On a trip to The Senator, shown here are Fred Niemeyer, his sister Clara Niemeyer, his daughter Adeline "Addie" Niemeyer, an unidentified winter visitor, local schoolteacher T.W. Lawton, and "Pappy" Dunbar. This photograph was taken in the early 1900s. Lawton rented a room from the Niemeyers while teaching in Longwood. In 1917, he became Seminole County's second school superintendent.
