Whole Foods Market

Where: 8003 Turkey Lake Road at Sand Lake Road, Orlando. Call: 407-355-7100 The lowdown: With 136 seats in its cafe, this is not your typical supermarket deli. Deciding what to eat is the challenge. From chowders to calzones, there's food all over the store to choose from. This is not a quick stop for first-timers, but once you become familiar with the lay of the land, it's an efficient and cost-effective way to get good food fast. Even though the store carries the nickname "Whole Paycheck," a careful grazer can get in and out for less than $10. The background: It's not just variety -- shoppers expect that from a store with 52,000 square feet. It's gourmet (with 14 certified chefs on staff) it's eco-friendly (with products that encourage healthy soils) and it's humane (with standards for animal health and safety). These are all linchpins in the philosophy of Whole Foods, which started in 1980 in Austin, Texas, and promotes the organic, natural and local-foods movements. This store has a Whole Lifestyle Center Cooking School, where top chefs, local and in-store culinary experts will host classes in a state-of-the-art demonstration kitchen. View Larger Map
