Dr. Phillips junior RB Demetrius Hart (5-8/172 and No. 15 on Sentinel's Florida Top 100 for 2011) had 5 touchdowns and 331 total yards as the Panthers downed Boone 47-9 to remain unbeaten.
Hart had scoring runs of 23, 20, 55 and 56 yards and also returned a punt 64 yards for a touchdown.
"We call him our 'gasp guy,' " DP Coach Dale Salapa said. "His work ethic and preparation each week allowed him to bring that dynamic and excitement every Friday. Whenever he gets the ball, you just hold your breath."
Hart, though just a junior, said this week that Michigan is leading the way in the courtship for his services.
DP was playing without starting RB Marvin Ford (No. 56 on Sentinel's Central Florida Top 100 for 2010), who was suspended for Friday's game along with star LB Charles Favors (No. 10 on CF 100) for violating school rules. The suspension came after Ford orally committed this past Monday to Colorado State. Favors just started to get heavy attention from colleges, but he has already surpassed DP's career record for tackles this season. He has 51 stops on the year and three forced fumbles.
Gainous leads the way as usual for EdgewaterEdgewater QB Kent Gainous (No. 45 on CF 100) had two rushing TDs (of 6 and 31 yards) as the Eagles made quick work of Liberty, 35-6. He finished with 60 rushing yards on seven carries and was 5-of-8 for 84 yards passing. For the season he is up to 527 rushing yards and five TDs.
Gainous, who has drawn attention from both FAU and Toledo, will get a big test next week when Edgewater hosts undefeated Winter Park's tough defense.
Apopka's Tom Smith and Keon Brooks have big gameApopka's junior tandem of RB Tom Smith (No. 94 on Florida Top 100 for 2011) and QB Keon Brooks had big nights in the Blue Darters 40-7 Homecoming win over West Orange. Smith had a 76-yard touchdown scamper and finished with 113 yards.
Brooks connected on 5-of-9 passes for 123 yards and had a 40-yard touchdown strike.
Olympia's Trevor Siemian airs it out againOlympia QB Trevor Siemian (No. 9 on CF 100 and Northwestern commit) threw for 240 yards and three touchdowns as the Titans had an easy outing, downing Wekiva 42-22.
Junior RB Jarius Pace continues to impress since the East Ridge transfer got his clearance two weeks ago. He caught a 35-yard touchdown pass from Siemian and ran 43 yards for another score.
Also, WR Rudy Crowder (No. 72 on CF 100) isn't showing any ill effects from his concussion last month, hauling in a 25-yard touchdown reception Friday.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
