The Seminoles appear to be looking to make sure they are not left out in the cold with running back prospects turning to other programs. Florida State's recent issues have caused concern among would-be FSU recruits.
One running back high on the Seminoles watch list is Giovanni Bernard, the top rated running back in the state and No. 7 on the Sentinel's Florida Top 100, of Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas. CBS reports Bernard is all set to make a commitment to Notre Dame.
Storm Johnson (6-1, 217), the power back out of Loganville, Ga., still holds the Seminoles high in regard after his plans to commit to LSU fell through. The 'Noles have also offered Brandon Gainer (6-0, 194, No. 23 on the Florida Top 100) of Miami Central and Eduardo Clements (5-10, 185, No. 68 Florida Top 100) of Miami Booker T. Washington.
Seminole targets who have committed elsewhere are Darion Hall of Naples (Miami); Kendrun Malcombe of Decatur, Ga., (Georgia); Corey Brown of Springfield, Pa., (Ohio State); and Mack Brown of Lithonia, Ga., (Florida) to name a few.
Florida State has one commitment to the 2010 signing class in juco player in Debrale Smiley (6-0, 235) of Itawamba Community College in Fulton, Miss., however academics might be an issue.
