Last Season: 7-9, 4-2 division Playoffs: Missed the postseason Stat Leaders: QB Philip Rivers (3,606 YDS, 26 TDS, 15 INTS); RB Ryan Mathews (707 YDS, 1 TD); WR Malcolm Floyd (814 YDS, 5 TDS); S Eric Weddle (97 TACKLES, 1 SACK) The Buzz: Philip Rivers struggled last year, fumbling the ball 13 times and failing to pass for at least 4,000 yards for the first time in five seasons. The Chargers shook up the coaching ranks following a three-year playoff drought, with Mike McCoy taking over as head coach and Ken Whisenhunt stepping in as offensive coordinator. Whisenhunt has a strong history of working with elite passers and could help get Rivers back to Pro Bowl form. The Chargers have already been hit hard by the injury bug, with Top receiver Danario Alexander is out for the season with a torn ACL. The defense actually has been a steady force for the Chargers. San Diego ranked No. 9 last season in total defense and adds Dwight Freeney to the lineup. Luck Factor: If the Chargers are lucky enough to avoid more injuries, the team has the talent to post a winning record.
