Record: 25-8

How they got here: At-large bid

Strengths: Sophomore guard Nik Stauskas earned Big Ten player of the year honors after emerging as a dominant scoring threat for the Wolverines, averaging 17.5 ppg and scoring at least 20 points in 13 Big Ten regular season games. The league media awarded coach John Beilein won Big Ten coach of the year honors for mentoring a team that entered the final week of the regular season ranked No. 21 nationally in field-goal shooting percentage (.481) despite facing elite competition in a highly competitive league. The school is making its fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and aims to return to the national title game after falling to Louisville last year.

Weaknesses: Michigan has struggled to find other options when opponents are especially aggressive on defense, disrupting screens, handoffs and drives that are key to the Wolverines' offensive success. Michigan entered the final week of the regular season tied for seventh nationally in 3-point shooting (39.7 percent), but runs into trouble if it hits a drought from long range.
