My Best Shot -- Lake Griffin State Park near Leesburg

Sometimes amazing things can be close to home. While camping at Lake Griffin State Park near Leesburg in early March, Robert Fraser of Orlando and his family discovered the "Mammoth Oak" tree near the entrance to the park. The tree is so large that it looks as if it is holding 6-year-old Mya Bell in the palm of its hand. Park literature says the 100-foot-tall tree is the fifth-largest live oak in Florida; it is estimated to be more than 300 years old. The park offers hiking trails, boating, camping and other pleasures of nature. Robert's comment: "Like almost every other state park the I have visited in Florida, Lake Griffin State Park is full of things to do, yet offers a peaceful respite from the hassles of daily urban life. Florida has great state parks, and we should be proud of that!"
