One of 39 loggerhead turtles swims free after being released by volunteers into the Indian River Lagoon south of Sebastian Inlet. One hundred forty-two loggerhead sea turtles returned to the Atlantic Ocean this morning after two years in captivity and two weeks of scientific testing to make the seas safer for the rest of the turtle species. The remaining 103 turtles were released simultaneously today into the waters off the coast of Ft. Pierce. "They've done their time and served a greater good,'' Meghan Koperski of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission told a cheering crowd of 125 volunteers.
