This world-famous refuge is for the birds, more than 200 species to be exact. Roseate spoonbills. Reddish egrets. Herons. They have room to roam in the 6,000-plus acres of mangrove forest, hardwood hammocks, mud flats and cordgrass marshes.<br>

Take the 90-minute tram ride or, for a closer look, hop on a bike and cover the four miles of paved road through the refuge. Best time for birding: early morning, dusk and low tide.
