Young Deuce Gruden provides winning points for Carrollwood in USF 7-on-7 tourney

Sentinel Staff Writer

He might be small, he might even be young, but don't ever question the competitive heart of rising-sophomore Deuce Gruden of Carrollwood Day School in Tampa.

The son of former Tampa Bay Bucs coach Jon Gruden was the hero on Sunday. Jon "Deuce" Gruden II caught a two-point conversion pass from quarterback Billy Embody to give Carrollwood a 13-12 victory over the Tampa Plant High JV team for the small school championship in the USF Sling and Shoot.

The little Gruden does it all for Carrollwood. Last year as a freshman, listed at 5-foot-6 and 160 pounds (very generous, by the way), the mini-Gruden worked mostly as a slot receiver on offense and linebacker and cornerback on defense.

He doesn't have any offers yet, but watch out, size may not matter.
